Dreamers Academy of Sarasota expands dual-language education with support from local law firm
SARASOTA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Dreamers Academy of Sarasota is redefining education through an innovative, dual-language learning model that immerses students in both English and Spanish.
As a nonprofit charter school, Dreamers Academy continues to grow — this year launching several expansion projects, including the construction of a brand-new middle school campus.
This exciting growth is being fueled in part by a generous donation from the Shumaker Law Firm of Sarasota. The contribution will directly enhance the school’s expanding literacy initiatives, helping to fund the purchase of new chapter books in both English and Spanish for students.
“With this donation, we’re able to purchase more books — especially chapter books in both English and Spanish,” said Dr. Cathy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez has led Dreamers Academy since its founding in 2021, guiding the school’s mission to empower bilingual learners through academic excellence and cultural enrichment.
“Our students are reading at advanced levels, and we want to continue challenging them and meeting their needs,” Rodriguez said.
The donation comes as part of Shumaker’s broader literacy initiative.
“Our goal was to impact one million lives through literacy efforts in our community,” said Adria Jensen, a partner at the firm. “We’re proud to say we’ve already achieved that milestone.”
Thanks to this collaboration, Dreamers Academy is one step closer to ensuring every student has the tools they need to thrive — one book at a time.
